Chip reader

Hello,

I am wondering if anyone knows of a chip reader that can read what the programme written onto the chip is?
I made an electronics project at uni and do not have the programme written down anywhere so I cannot duplicate it. It was a project measuring force using strain gauges.

"Chip" what chip?
Lets assuma a micro controller.
What brand?
What faimly?
Does the part have security? Way the security set?
What ever you used to program the part is what you should use to read the part back.
Some parts you can not read back.
