Hate to revive an old thread but thought I'd post this for anyone who's still confused about the difference between MB, KB, MiB, KiB, etc.

For myself, the relatively recent (10 years ago) adoption of the KiB (kibibyte? gimme a break) naming convention is just goofy. If they were going to do that they should have left kilobyte with its original use in base-2 and given the silly kibibyte name to the hard-drive manufacturers' marketdroid base-10 kilobyte.
Then again no-one asked me, oddly.
