Basic Micro Atom Nano series

Do any of the users here use the Basic Micro Nano Series Microcontrollers?

They have a forum there but not too active. I was wondering if anyone over here uses them?

One or two people use picaxe.... but most here prefer the chip in the raw.....I think I've got one somewhere!!

I am working my way towards the PIC directly but had some projects and was a little familiar with Basic so it was an easy transition to use the Nano. I find the Nano series economically priced and they seem to do what I need. I did acquire a Pickit 2 a while back but I will need to work through the tutorials to learn how to use it. It is a some day thing..... The Nano looks like a good product but it seems like it has not caught on. The owner is good on the forum and there are a couple of very helpful users but not too much chatter. I do not know much about the PicAxe or other similar devices to compare them fairly.

It appears very much like a picaxe... I like the 32 bit modules, I can see them used quite a bit... How much is the compiler?

The compiler is free, as far as I know. I have not looked at the 32 bit components. No need to, project wise and not there yet in my learning curve but I believe the Micro Studio Suite does all of the Atom line. It seems fairly easy to use but again, I have nothing to compare to...

Hopefully, it works out for you. It would be nice to know I gave some help on these forums instead of always receiving...

Forgive my "newbie-ness" but what is the difference between Interpreter and compiler? The "suite" I use to write the code and program the Nano chips, although often I just use a text prgram and copy/paste later. Is that not a compiler? or does a compiler do something different at a different level?

An interpreter is program resident on the final platform that will interpret each line one by one ( similar to the basic's on early computers...speccy, commodore and such)

A compiler physically compile's the code into the machines native language... binary

Interpreted code runs a lot slower...
