I have had great results charging NiMh batteries with a constant current charger set to 0.095C. Which relates to 2200MAH x 0.095 or .209A. I have used LM317T configured as a constant current charger. The closest standard value resistor for you would be 6.2 ohms 1/2 watt.
Charging this way you don't have to worry about overcharging, and the charger can be left on all the time if you like.
