An audio opamp like an inexpensive TL071 (or the dual TL072 or quad TL074) has low noise and distortion of only 0.003%. I requires only a few resistors to make a preamp.
Any opamp works from a single-polarity supply if its input is biased correctly at half the supply voltage and a few coupling capacitors are used.

The lousy old LM358 is an old low power dual opamp that has awful crossover distortion, plenty of hiss and very poor high frequency response. It is not suitable for audio. A Goldstar (now called LG Electronics) Korean telephone system used it in a speakerphone and Canadian customers complained about the crossover distortion until I fixed it by adding a resistor in each speakerphone. I couldn't fix the hiss without replacing the old IC.
