sorta of i mean what do they do different than regular components?

Do they do something different to the current/phase/voltage?

I'm not sure what they do really ?
Ans the following
u have a water pipe line with a valve.
when u open and close the valve.
what happens to
flow of water , color of water , pressure of water ?

have a water pipe line with a valve.

what happens to

flow of water? its cuts off the water or changes the flow or puts opposition
to the water flow

color of water? changes the phase?
what u mean by the color of the water? what is the color?

pressure of water ? Pressure=voltage different voltage drops?

A Triac with a Diac feeding its gate is used in mains light dimmers and speed controls for power tools. They use a pot and capacitor to make a phase-shifted delay to turn on the triac early or late in each half-cycle of the mains voltage. Each time the mains voltage passes through zero volts, the load current drops to less than the holding current and it turns off. The phase-shift/delay parts turn it on in the next mains half-cycle.

You can learn about them if you want to make a light dimmer but they aren't used with guitars nor with audio.
