I'm looking to build a guitar tuner of sorts for EE 100.

So on the first day of class we were informed that we would have a project instead of a test for our final. That suits me just fine since i'm always happy to get out of a test. lol. Right off I thought of a tuner. So far I have an idea of something to do with a microphone and frequency to voltage converter and then use the output of the frequency to voltage converter to drive some sort of meter which shows the frequency/corresponding notes. Does that sound at least half way on track to anyone?
