Good suggestion, Nigel. Unfortunately, there ain't nothing I can do about my reflexes being a fraction (i.e., much slower) of what they once were. I think it is nature's way of weeding out the herd. Otherwise, how do you explain it physiologically?

Everything gets slower as you get older :p

You could always wear a crash helmet? :D

Nigel,
Will let you know if that ever happens to me.

As you know 'use it or lose it' is a good mantra

Wish you a good health AudioGuru. Many wont know you personally, still many people know you by name AudioGuru. I mean you are famous by that name, and anyone researching on internet will perhaps know you by that name.

Hate to break the bad news to you Guru but your national health insurance is likely why your cardiologist is skipping a year to see you. I got the same (good?) news from my cardiologist. It's becoming the same medical practice here in the states due to rising health costs and insurance companies whining about $$ losses depite we pay them big bucks for coverage. So, if the cardiologist believes you are at little or reduced risk, he'll have you skip a year for a stress test or exam. He goes by risk factors and recent test results and determines from that if you can do without further monitoring by him or his team. Thank God colonoscopy screenings are only every 5 to 6 years.... only a ghey twit with a gerbil for a pet would look forward to having a hose shoved up his wazoo! :stop::eek:

Yikes that is a serious operation. I hope you heal soon.

After my heart attack and repairs I went to the hospital for a 6-months excercise program for heart patients. There were some people who had a multiple bypass operation and one young lady had her heart replaced from a donor. I am glad they fixed my blocked heart arteries without chopping my chest open.
I attended a 8-week cardio exercise pgm. years ago. One participant owned a greasy spoon breakfast dinor and would sneak in jelly rolls, eeg sandwiches, and sausage links to us.

That particular participant , had a brother that owned a funeral parlor !

Ops! Now Toronto is facing -29 degree celcious!! (the lowest temperature of these two decades) Amazing for me!!! Because I never faced even less then only 7 degree celcious, and at 7 degree C my fingers were totally senseless. Thinking that how people can live there! Guessing that they can't see the sun few months... Takecare!

(here we are facing 10 degree celcious now and people are saying the coldest time of the year. All surroundings covered with fug.)

I was outside yesterday when it was -23 degrees C and was very windy. I was dressed for the cold and my warm car was nearby. The day after tomorrow it will be -1 degree C which is normal for winter here. Today there is about 3cm of snow on everything. Last week it rained heavily then it froze and many trees broke and made electricity lines fall down. My huge tree and electricity survived.

One time work sent me to balmy Denver Colorado then suddenly to Winnipeg Canada where the temperature was so low that it was said to be the number of seconds before exposed skin freezes, 10 seconds I think. I had a spring jacket, no gloves, no scarf, no boots and no hat. I had a peek outside and nearly froze to death.

My country has all kinds of temperature within few hundred distance (approx. 200km north and south). I am at southern part and it is Terai region, totally plain land and very hot place (around 43 degrees C during summer) and it's located just 95 meter height from sea level. If I went 200km or little more northern part, there are World's 8 tallest mountains (except 2nd) includind world's tallest peak 'Mt. Everest' (8,848m). Extremly cold there but I am a unlucky person because I never been in such cold place, I never seen how snow looks like in real. So I even cannot imagine the death temperature you had faced before.

I am thinking about minimum temperature of few device which might not work less than few minus degree celcious. May be few general purposes transistor too? Um... I forgot datasheet.

In overall, is there any effect on electronics due to such cold atmosphere? In simple you need no bigger heatsink and with cool temperature you get lots of output power dissipation with less heat, :) isn't it?

The temperature was -53 degrees C a couple hundred km away from me yesterday. No mountain. THAT IS COLD!

Most of the ICs and small transistors in black epoxy packages we use are spec'd for a temperature of 0 degrees C to 70 degrees C. Some electrolytic capacitors are spec'd for a max of 85 or 105 degrees C.

The Li-Po batteries used in my electric RC model airplanes have low capacity when less than 10 degrees C (also my fingers) but work fine if the current in them is high and warms them and if they are enclosed to avoid the cold outside air cooling them.

I would never operate a power transistor without a heatsink because it is cold outside. The heatsink is needed every time it is warm outside. In the cold it will never be colder than the air.

I like to listen from you always. Your experiences are valuable. May be you made thousands of devices till now from your childhood. May be some were interesting, some were amazing, some were tricky/useful, some were your best, some were coincidentally made or etc. May be you are very happy with them. I too felt happy by imagining them...

My Cardiologist (heart specialist doctor) told me that the last time he sees me will be in 2 years.
Doom and gloom? I die soon after 2 years? But I don' t wanna die soon! I feel young and fine.

No, no he said. I graduated. I am fine and in 2 years I won't need him anymore.
WHEW!

So you guys will see me chatting, complaining and insulting on these websites for many more years.

Wow, I now have something to look forward to. :)

Seriously AG, great news on the cardiac front. News like that is always good to hear.

Ron

It is amazing what doctors can do today. My body broke then I was fixed. Now I feel better than ever. I am 68 but I feel like 38.

My medicine is scary. It makes my heart beat very strongly and very slowly. It makes my blood pressure low but I do not feel faint. I am strong and I have good endurance.
I am slim and trim and the same weight as when I was 18.

Various students and hobbyists need audioguru in various discussion forum like now a days! You are a hero for us!

Must be that Canadian water supply. :)
