New (2012) Ford's come with a "universal remote" for operation garage doors and similar remote items. Car2U(TM) is the vendor of the item, which is apparently a Lear product.

To my utter surprise and anguish, this system will not work with devices designed for 390 MHz. That is an extremely common frequency for such devices in the USA. Lakita at Car2U technical service informed me that 390 MHz is "owned by the government" and cannot be used for current production residential garage door openers.

Technical service at Genie (a major US manufacturer and the manufacturer of my particular garage door openers) responded,
Genie still uses 390 Mhz. Genie systems made starting in 2012 and 2011 uses (sic) both 390 and 315.

If one searches on Car2U frequencies, you will find a lot of posts, but very little technical detail. So FYI, here they are. According to Car2U, the fixed code frequencies used are (MHz): 288 ,300, 303, 310, 315, 318, 340, 360, and 380. The rolling code frequencies are (MHz): 315 and 372.

Does anyone here have experience re-tuning the receivers of such door openers? My units are older and have a little rf shielded box with a tuning slug.

My plan would be to get a 380 MHz remote Tx and tune to it.
