Hi all,

Im facing a problem while calculating the gain of a system.
The diagram below show an operation of a cardiac pacemeter.
It is desired to adjust the gain, K of the amplifier to obtain a suitable response to a step change in the disired heart rate.
The problem is to get a suitable gain based on the overshoot requirements presented in the range of 5 to 15%.
Can anyone please help me with this?

Simplify the diagram to find the transfer function:

T(s)= 10k/(s^2 + 10s + 10k)
the %OS depends on the damping ratio (d), or damping ratio as a function of %OS

d= (-ln(%OS/100))/((pi^2+ln^2(%OS/100))^1/2

use the range of %OS to find the range of d

the damping ratio relates to k using the transfer function

10=2*d*wn where wn^2=k
therefore,
k=(.5/d)^2

solve for k

sorry about the mess of equations, you should be able to find them easily enough. I have to look into latex...

EDIT: I made a mistake, the coefficient on s^2 must be 1
