SMT Tantalum Capacitor Code Help

Hi there.

I have a Dell XT tablet pc which has just given up on me.

I find when I press down on one of the capacitors on the motherboard, it boots!

I'm thinking faulty capacitor / broken track.

I want to replace the capacitor to be safe but (having never used SMT capacitors before) am unsure of the coding.

The capacitor reads:

The "k" in "6k" has a bar above and below it.

I think this is a 220uF capacitor.

From pictures, I think it is a D Type casing.

I am unsure of the tollerance and voltage ratings though.

Any help would be appreciated.

Also does anyone know any websites in the UK that would stock this.

A dry joint perhaps...a quick re-soldering job may be better than trying to remove and replace the cap.

Yeah, I will give that a go, but I'm more than aware that capacitors are the primaty cause of motherboard failure.

I have found some more details

KO stands for Kemet Organic
227 is 220uf

I think 6k means 6.3v Kemet

733 is the 33rd week of 2007.

Now how do i find the tollerance and the ESR - and will this be important as Kemet have about 6 different types in the same package size.

The D case has dimensions: 7.3 x 4.3 mm.

'k' usually stays for 10% tolerance.
As far as the nominal voltage is concerned, different manufacturers use different markings. 220uF-10 V is easily available in case D, haven't seen higher values for 220 uF.
