I have a Sega Game Gear and I was planning to get a GGTV board (https://etim.net.au/ggtv/ggtv.htm) and replace the icky stock LCD with a new LCD that I can connect to the GGTV. The new LCD is much sharper and suffers less blurring that 25 year old LCD suffers due to changes and improvements in LCD technology. There will be one problem:
if I play Game Gear games, the image will be shrunk on the new LCD with black borders added. This is due to how Game Gear created video, it is much lower resolution than a standard video (composite, S-Video, or RGB) and I have asked the creator about built in zoom feature, he said CLPD can't handle it. Playing Sega Master System games via adapter gets full video as SMS games were made at higher resolution (GG internally shrunk the image to fit stock LCD). It would be very easy to detect GG and SMS mode, pin 42 of the cart port sets the mode. If it's low it plays Game Gear and if it's high, Sega Master System.
So anyone have any idea how to, oh say, double the pixel resolution and then center image and discard anything outside viewable area? I have seen external zoom devices but they aren't small or portable enough for me to shoe-horn into Game Gear. Could something like arduino or whatever be used? It can tap onto the pin 42 of the cart port to tell if it's in SMS or GG mode and zoom only the GG video while passing SMS video intact.
