The electronics in a pedometer is essentially a counter, does that give you a hint?
The rest is just a readout, a motion sensitive switch and a reset switch.
And let us not forget the battery.
Here in the US one can buy one for $1.00 and it can readily be modified for other uses, like coil and transformer winding.
And let us not forget that the cheapest of calculators can also be used as counters. I do not know what their maximum frequency might be. Maybe someone could enlighten us.
