i used Mike's rs232 converter in place of a max 232 chip
thanks Mike ! :)
it worked , but i had to use the +12V on the breadboard ,instead of pin 7
pin 7 didnt work ?
actually i had pin7 & 8 connected together, like on the infrared reciever in my other post.
i used the Mikro pascal USART library demo program

You can also try pin 4 on the DB9 connector. I've noticed that some PC software doesn't set pin 7.

You can also probably connect the pull-up resistor to 5v on your PIC board. Most PC serial ports work fine with 5v for the "high" signal.

Happy Holidays. Mike

do you know how to connect the rs232a to a circuit that uses pic16f877? i have a circuit here but i dont know how to interface the rs232a in it.. can you help me?

When i connect the terminal program to my circuit and select decimal output
the adc output comes on the screen as decimal.
but when i save it to a file , i get strange characters?
will hyperterminal work better?

i can send it as text , but i'm not sure how to do that
below is a description of the write text procedure
