Reading 5 and 6 band resistors

How do you read 5 and 6 color band resistors. I know how to read 4 band ones. I would just assume that on 5 band ones

First, second, third are the value
Fourth is the multiplier
5th is the tolerance

and on six band resistors

First, second, third, fourth is the value
5th is the multiplier
6th is the tolerance

but this really doesn't make sense. Can anybody clear it up. Thanks
 
I would suggest that six bands probably only use three for value, just like five band, the extra sixth band is for temperature coefficient.
