Question about remote keyfobs and IC chips

I have been trying to find an answer to this for some time, so it's nice to find this forum. I run a car stereo and accessories shop, and I want to add replacement keyfobs to my offerings. I'm sure you know what I'm referring to, but it is the keyfob transmitter that unlocks the vehicle doors, enables/disables the alarm, etc.

I have a source for keyfob enclosures, and I have been told that the enclosures will work with the 2240, 2260, 2262, HCS301, 12F629, or HT6P20D IC chips. But which chip do I need when dealing with commercial passenger vehicle alarm/keyless entry systems? And where would I get instructions as to how to program the keyfob so that it works with a given vehicle?

I apologize if these are very basic questions. Thanks in advance for any advice.
