ok great i thought that is what Pommie meant.


So all i need is micro controller, code and a power source to run the leds?

I know the LCD/keypad might need something else so i will look up tutorial.

Its a good idea to use a ic pcb socket for the PIC, unless you are going to use in circuit programming [ISP].

When I say keypad, it could just be a line of momentary push buttons, nothing too fancy...

How far away from the pcb are the LED's going to be located.?

the led will be connect by a 6-10 foot wire. whats the best language?

big neon lights would be cool but i think i want to build it with leds for now while i am learning.

Reason for asking is the 10ft cable link from PIC to LED's.
If you are thinking about a later upgrade to Bigger/Brighter leds I would consider using ULN2803 drivers
between the PIC output pins and the LED's.

The ULN can accept PIC output levels and is able to drive loads upto +50V at a few hundred mA's.

I was thinking of putting plugs/jacks in the back of the module for each led/light so that I can plugin or unplug the 10 ft. cord.

I'm not sure how it works because i am new. looks like to me it will be PIC, to jack, to led.

I'm confused about the small parts like resistors,carbon, or if i will need any smaller parts at all.
