If you are just protecting the pic pins try a snubber on each pin to ground...

Sorry Ian, Somehow I didn't see this post, but wouldn't the diodes short when the polarity was one way?

hi Al.
The resistor in that circuit is only there to show the effect for the plots.

The diode circuit you have posted is standard for inductive loads, so it should work ok.

At 90mA you are either going to pop the PIC pin or limit the drive to the relay.

Hi Guys,

Well I just found some 2 coil relays in my box! Guess that solves my problem and I can now drive them with transistors too!
