PIC18F4550, how to delay/hold value for IR sensor?

Hi,

how to delay/hold the condition of IR sensor?

Condition 1 = no object
Condition 0 = Object detected

I already try with delay in If(IR==0) but it not work.
Basically how to hold the condition for IR sensor for few second then it recheck?
