Path planning using RGB colour sensors

I am doing a project in which the robot should sense Colour boards(Red, green & blue) kept at a distance of at least 30 Cm.
Can anyone suggest me a RGB sensor or other means which will fill my requirement.
( I have a circuit design using LDR's & colour filters. Can anyone help me in improving it so that it could sense object's colour at a distance >30 Cm)
