At last I've jus completed my PIC course at last, but want to increase my knowledge and experience with PICs. I have a PIC18F452, and with my PICdem board I got 2 other PICs. I dont know what they are, but there are 2 stickers pasted on them. one says "4520LCDs1.HEX 09/06 28E8h" and the other says "PIC16.Hex 07/06 CAE6h". what are these PICs?

also, i programmed mainly PIC18F452, will it be a problem migrating to and programming with PIC16?are there many differences?are PIC18s or PIC16s preferred?

Also, do any of you know of any good projects or sites with projects that will give me ideas?

I'm thinkin of a possible mobile phone controller which you can use to SMS control signals to the device and it can switch on/off other devices...

If you studied 18F then just carry on with it.18F are high end versions of 16F series. You have enough memory & new modules in 18F series.Ex:Hardware arithmetic modules, enhanced modules over 16F series etc....Its easy to do a critical task with them.

But in industry you need to apply both the families.Otherwise even to a small job you have to apply expensive high end versions.

Better go with GSM modules. Now No longer available AT commands supportive phones or known FBUS supportive phones.

so basically the GSM module is a SIM card reader, but it will read the msgs and send the appropriate signals to the PIC?what's a model that i can buy?

also machan, can you buy it in sri lanka?what are the good electronics stores in colombo?i know of senith, silvertones, and i've seen ravi pcb, but never been there
