Need of paragraph in 8086

Hi there,
Segments in 8086 are separated by 16 bytes which is called paragraph. What is the need of paragraph and why should it be divisible by 16

Never heard of a paragraph before....... segments in real mode are 64k because of the 16 bit pointer... I program mainly in C, so I never went into that much detail...

16bit pointer and 16bit offset register gave up to 4meg address space ( the first four LSB's aren't used in memory addressing.... maybe that's what you mean '16 bytes')

There are 20 address pins but the first 4 are used for peripheral id's and such.. so I suppose the segments are 16 bytes apart...
