Need help with designing a project - Graphic equaliser

It needs to have at least 5 subsystems and i have no idea where to start in designing this, would appreiciate any help

There is a recent Circuit Cellar articke (las few months) on how to select bands for a spectrum analyzer. That's a start.

I know of at least two types:
1) Graphic equalizer
2) Parametric equalizer

The latter can move the venter frequency as well as cut boost at nearby frequencys.
