need help using Dmx

HI

i made a fast order without fully understand the DMX protocol. this is the modules i have ordered .

i want to use this modules to control 45w rgb flood light i have made.

now for the question , i have seen a lot of controller with all kinds of models like :WS2801 , LPD8806 .... AND SO ON .

i want a simple DMX controller to control this modules , like that :

i would also want to do running colors effect .

i need some help as i tried reading a lot of guides and so simple things like what does it mean dmx512/1990 ?? will i be able to control it with all dmx controllers ?
