I just finished a new contact less tachometer project, i just thought it would be useful for some people to share:

There are many things beginners can learn from that open source project like
- Using an alpha numeric LCD with the need of a potentiometer for the contrast adjustment
- Using LCD is 4 bit mode to save some wires
- Implementing a hysteresis on a sensor reading to enhance noise immunity of the system
