I replaced an entire I.C. in my sony car mini disk player with logic and a couple reed relays about three years ago. It worked right up til last week when some c#nt broke into my van and knicked it! At least I will be able to prove it was mine lol!

Hi,

I have an ongoing problem with a Ford Escort.
It packed up on my mate, right outside my house.
Its still there after two weeks.
We are pretty sure the problem is with the 'Immobiliser'.
No spark.
All else seems in order.
Its one of those add-on purchases, it has a little piece
of plastic to insert with a row of connectors on it.
Like a short row of side contacts.
You are supposed to insert this little piece of plastic in
its little slot by the key, or the car wont start.

I have been trying to find info on the standard wiring,
cos my mate says, don't worry about the immobiliser, just
try to make it run, so i can take it home.

The word Escort seems to invite a lot of unwanted stuff.
Mainly naughty stuff.

If anyone could offer any advice on dealing with this
ignition system, we would be grateful.
I found this, it has two pictures, i would like to see
the one on the left, but it is very badly reproduced.
**broken link removed**
If anyone can get a good look at it, i would very much
like a screenshot.

Help! John :)

Well i finally took that key fob to pieces.
I was quite worried doing that, i expected to find some sort of
components, or some gadget that i could not reproduce.

I needn't have worried. It was just printed circuit tracks that
connected the side connections in a pattern.
I couldn't see anything wrong with it at all.
I will check that the connections in the car all make properly
on this key fob, but it looks ok to me.

That leaves the ignition system.
Lovely. Just what i need. Another headache. Its a distributor-
less system using a pair of 'wasted spark' coil units.

My knowledge of these systems is pretty scanty, so any help
i can get will be welcome.

Cheers, John :)

My mate has now sold the vehicle to a bloke who lives
just along the road from me.
So i dont need to worry about it now.

i feel better already.
