Multiplexing

I was wondering if anyone can simply explain the concept of digital/analog multiplexing to me - actually, i understand the concept, just can u post a simple circuit diagram (with pin numbers pls) which i can use to multiplex 32 inputs into 8.

Also can anyone source a datasheet for me for a dot matrix pls?

You could do the job with eight 4:1 multiplexers.
