what is the maximum curent that a lm741cn can supply to the load. i am trying to shunt the out put to ground with a transistor and i need to figure out the value of resistor to limit the current

If you look on page 3, where it lists 25 Ma as typical output short circuit current. Going one step further and looking on page 1 of the schematic it shows Q14 with a 25 ohm resistor between the base and emitter of Q14. It is my understanding that this will limit the output current. Using ohms law I=E/R. Since Vbe=0.7 volts to turn it on then
I=0.7/25 or 28mA. The actuall current depends on several factors, one is the actual value resistor R9. I would determine what the output voltage is going to be and use the 25 Ma figure to calculate the resistor in question.
