The LM387 isn't an opamp so you can't just replace it with one.
It is a dual preamp circuit with its own input biasing.
A modern cheap low-noise dual opamp would out-perform it, but needs biasing and its pin numbers changed around to match.
You could throw away your broken old tape player and replace it with an MP3 player or somethin'.
