I'm doing a project that involves using LED indicators for different levels of voltage. I've been told that there is a chip used in equalizers for indicate levels that i can use. Does anybody have any idea how it works and data sheet which i can use and a possibly the circuit diagram on how it is connected in an equalizer?

The LM3914 has equal steps with 1/10th the total between two steps.
The LM3915 has logarithmic steps that are 3dB apart.

Both have 10 steps and a number of ICs can be chained together for more steps.
