LCD to parallel Port to USB

Im building a Parallel port to LCD interface, recently the idea came up of being able to use a Parallel Port to USB converter.

Would this work for an LCD too?

So far, reports have indicated that those who tried have been unsuccessful; apparently the USB-parallel interface doesn't pass all the bits/lines.

Been trying to figure that out. A USB->serial interface would probably work, though.
