LCD replacement

Hi guys,

I have a unit which controls AC on a yacht. This unit has LCD screen burnt so I was looking for a replacement. Nothing relevant written on screen after opening it:
Phico manufacturer, 320x240, CLC-320240-2X04A0269

On the PCB of LCD I saw a chip SMC51542SS but I couldn´t find any info. On the main unit PCB I see it uses GDS1110 (BGA chip) from Stron ARM (Intel). There is some information about the types of LCD it can use but is very general.

The main unit PCB seems to communicate directly to the LCD with some buffers in between. There is a cable connected with 15 lines.

Do you have any idea how to find a good replacement for this unit?

Sunlight is particularly harsh where I am, due to very low air pollution levels and the resultant high UV, and the result is that LCD panels which are subject to frequent exposure do appear to become 'burnt'.
What 'burns' is actually the top polarizer on the LCD panel.
This generally occurs on instrument clusters, HVAC control panels & entertainment head unit displays.
I suspect 2PAC Mafia may be experiencing the same thing in Mallorca.
 
Can you guys zip up and put the tape measures away...?

There's enough incoming from free-energy and flat-earth knobbers to deal with, without in-fighting between valued members.

Can you post the exact information from the manufacturer about other LCD types that can be used?
 
It's likely not "burnt," rather merely in need of a new backlight. There are ways to check for this!
Backlight is OK, the problem is a big circle on screen which difficults the view.

I think you are correct, polarizer issue. It is not exposed at sunlight I guess, probably installed at engine room.
Can you post pictures of the LCD assembly - front and rear, showing the directly attached PCB and connector to the other electronics?

This information is not from manufacturer, it was on main microprocessor used on motherboard, Strong ARM 1110 in BGA package so on LCD section there was some information about that, I can look for it and upload.
Does it look like this? Can you get us good pictures of the front and back?

It is different.

Thank you very much for your help. We were taking measurements on all 15 pins to identify clocks, sync signals, power... I will try to upload photos tomorrow. We have to make some tests with some LCD´s we have and used on units which are based also on Strong ARM GDS1110 but also other jobs between hands...

Perhaps it's the high heat then?
I do see damaged LCD screens quite often here, mostly in automotive and marine equipment, and assumed, maybe incorrectly, that it was down to the UV. Older vehicles tend to end up with very large cracks across the top of the dashboard.
They say that even those with a California sun tan will burn quite quickly here in Bermuda.
The polarizer can be seen to be damaged, even when not powered on.
I have a damaged item at work, which shows this quite clearly.

This looks suspiciously similar; the same stepped style mounting hole width and a similar connector size and location:

I think the numbers on the PCBs on your unit may be the PCB makers reference numbers rather than the display part number?
Is there anything on the end of the label strip, under where the ribbon cable covers in in the first photo?

Can you tell if the connections make sense when compared to the other end of the cable? eg. the various power and ground pins in the same place?


edit 2 - and ps. What is the screen size (visible diagonal) of the original unit?

Comparing to some measurements we did on pins with the oscilloscope it seems the same configuration, I think it should be compatible. We will confirm later when we did some more comparisons and I already checked it is available to buy. Thank you very much in advance.
