I have seen many cheap laptop screens for sale, most on ebay of course
I was wondering if it would be possible to, with some circuitry of course, to hook up one to my pc.
I was hoping to do this so I could use one for my carputer project and possible to add one to my xbox once thats working with VGA output.

Anyone have any ideas or know anything I can buy to make this possible?

Thanks all.

It is very hard to do, the controller needed is very expensive. (I have one of these lcds sitting in my room...)

check out www.earthlcd.com , they seemed to be pretty advanced in this.

Thanks for the link jrz126.
Does seem a little expensive for my budget, perhaps when I have a little more dosh. Think a small 16x2 LCD will do for the moment

Real common question. It always looks like a good idea (I had that idea), all those obsolete laptops with big LCD screens, but it's not practical since the controller isn't with the LCD.

You can take a desktop monitor that has a VGA input and turn it into a TV with a fairly cheap converter ($40-$100 or so). The desktop monitors don't really have the brightness to be used as a TV in a car though.

I have a used LCD out of a compaq laptop. It has a small circuit board attached to the ribbon cable. Is this the controller board?
