Inverting vs non-inverting preamp mic

I was doing research on mic pre-amplifiers circuit design and basically I'm still curious as to what benefits each configuration has to offer.

One thing to note is that I see more designs based on non-inverting preamps. Why is that so? I've been searching half the day for the pros and cons for each configuration but with very little results.

I would suggest the reason is simply that using a non-inverting configuration allows you to seperately alter gain and input impedance.

If the circuit is using op amps, the input resistance is much higher for non inverting configuration, so it won't load signal sources which have relatively high output impedance.
