33 Material Ferrite Rods
The 33 material rods are more suitable for very low frequency range (100 KHz to 1MHz)
 
A long time ago I used to us a special glue called Q dope to glue the magnet wire to a core. Now I start the winding and use a small piece of masking tape.

I use Elmer's glue. You can pull it loose if you need to and will not effect coil when dry.
