I want to write a proposal (technical & financial ) about home automation to introduce it to Microsoft or APP .. etc

feel free to post any comment on this thread

thanks

Always remember: keep it simple. You know exactly what you are trying to say.... but you're the only one who does.

make sure you outline your general objectives in the first paragraph, one or two sentences.

Be clear but don't go into too much detail: details are what they use to deselect ideas, keep it general and they will be picturing ways they can use it in their minds. People always want to get into the gory details, but don't do that up front.

Get a non technical person to read it after you think you are done, and listen to what they say.

Do you have any reason to suspect they will read your proposal? I can tell you, from personal experience, that large companies do not want to touch unsolicited proposals with an 11 foot pole. For them such a proposal is fraught with danger and their legal eagles probably will insist that it be returned to you unopened. If you want to write a business plan and shop it around to the VCs you will have what I consider a larger chance of success. Just remember that ideas are only worth only 10 cents a bale in 100 bale lots. In order to monetize an idea you have to start a company -- THERE IS NO OTHER WAY.

VC = venture capital

People who can sometimes be persuaded to throw money at a risky venture n return for a lot of founders stock.:D

He's right, big companies don't take unsolicited proposals. They hire very expensive specialists to come up with ideas and pay them millions of dollars no matter how stupid they are.

Life ain't fair....

hm yea that probably sums it up for microsoft no wonder they bang on so much about their nice new OSes and we are sitting here still trying to see the difference.

find a company that does something similar that is willing to take a small chance

Also, be aware the Venture Capitalists are in it for a "quick" profit. Had a close friend that lost his whole company, intellectual property and all his assets, because the VC's didn't see a quick enough turn around in their money.

if its something really worth while that you do not need a lot of investment fro you may be best going at it alone and starting your own company

Funding a company out of your own pocket -- aka "Build a few, sell a few" and selling your soul to the Vulture Capitalists are the only ways to monetize an idea. Neither one is perfect, but it is a complete fantasy to think that any company out there would EVER pay you for an unsolicited proposal.

That's true. If it's a good idea, they'll just steal it, then tie a bow on it and claim it was their idea.

Or worse. Suppose you act like a genius inventor and get a patent. Say you spend $15,000.00 of your hard earned dollars on a patent attorney who manages to get you a patent after 3-5 years. What will the large company do? I'm glad you asked that, because I'm going to tell you. They and their stable of high priced legal eagles will willfully infringe on your patent and DARE, that's right DARE, you to sue them to enforce your patent. After you spend $1,500,000.00 of your hard earned dollars and win your case after seven years, you will have to sue again to recover monetary damages. After 10 more years of farting around with the legal system you will be crushed, broke, and demoralized while they walk off into a golden parachute retirement. Don't believe me -- believe Don Lancaster
