Home made carbon/graphite capacitors.

There is a guy on you tube, some of his chemistry is a bit flaky. But on the whole I get the feeling he is fairly ok. Robert Murray Smith, anyway he has been making large capacitance capacitors, mainly out of things like powered carbon on a mesh etc. Anyone got any idea if this is workable?

I couldnt decide from the chemistry side of it, some of his formulae was wrong. But that dosnt always mean the person is wrong. Clearly he is no trained chemist, but he sems to have done alot of reasonable work on it. Any opinions or is this yet another down slide in quality on you tube?

I ask because he mentions a PVA gel method, it seems reasonable the way it was presented but You Tube is so full of it....

I know a lot of supercap work has been done with carbon nano tube technology.

Some guy just playing with the stuff, on a whim, discovered the supercap uses (just can't remember where I saw that. I'll keep looking).

Makes sense that some lesser form of carbon might work, just not as well.

Thats exactly what I mean, sounds feasible, but somehow I have a niggle with plain carbon doing it. Then again add in a polymer with sodium hydroxide and your almost upto a battery. So the question is then, is this a super cap or just a rubbish rechargeable battery. TBH I think I will just use one of the smaller 2F ones I have.
