Dear Folks,

A quick question:

If you have a HDD44780 LCD with built in LED (backlight)

Does the Light come on automatically when data is sent to the LCD???

Do you have to turn the backilght ON-OFF using external control??

There should be 2 pins to supply power to the backlight.
Normally, the backlight is completely independent of the rest.

Right, on the one I'm using (**broken link removed**), pin 15(+) and 16(-) supplies the power for the backlight.
