help with primary tap connector

im looking for some input and advice for a connector to tap the primary of my tesla coil. i have an alligator clip, but it sticks up above the strike rail and it touches the adjacent windings. what have you used for yours? is it OK if the wire that connects to the tap rests on the outside windings that arent being used?

how about wrapping the primary with a thin wire and soldering it in place?

thanks for the reply! i would prefer something removeable, reason being ill be experimenting with different top loads. so ill have to be moving it around.

Also you could make something in the fashion of this https://www.google.com/products/cat...=X&ei=5EvmT6TgE6n54QTxtp2xAQ&ved=0CKEBEPICMAA but instead of the top part use a copper stranded wire and for the base use some plastic, so that you can tighten it further away from the primary.

An Adel clamp without insulation would improve the side clearance and be easily adjusted.

A common use is in aircraft, but they are quite easily made from scrap aluminum or copper sheet.
