In simple terms,
Lines are wires.
A cross with a dot or a mark in the center shows all 4 wires connect.
A cross without a dot shows two wires. One may be on top of another, but they don't connect.
The other symbols represent the components.
As for the other symbols, I wont go through them here since there are alot of them. Just do a search for any schematic and then on most schematics, you will see labels representing devices (for example, Q1 = transistor).
