Help needed identifying these components

Please can someone help me identify the components in the below picture. They are across the incomming line of a Panasonic KX-TG6561BX

Panasonic used various devices for means of phone line protection.
Orange device is a Movistor and the "glass diode" looking device is a spark gap protector

I'm not sure it is actually a spark gap device, more likely to be a semiconductor bidirectional-breakdown device. Similar operation, ie high resistance but will break down and conduct in either direction when voltage exceeds a certain limit.

If I was to take these component out and put bridges in and make a separate surge protection externally will this work?

Are these components shorted? What are trying to do?

I am trying to repair the fax phone and the incoming line is not working

These parts will short when bad.

I suspect that the machine has been damaged by lightning

Pull them out and test them for a short. Most of those use an opto-isolator too which may be bad.
