Mr RB Well-Known Member May 19, 2013 #4 I'm not sure it is actually a spark gap device, more likely to be a semiconductor bidirectional-breakdown device. Similar operation, ie high resistance but will break down and conduct in either direction when voltage exceeds a certain limit.

BeerBelly Member May 19, 2013 #10 Pull them out and test them for a short. Most of those use an opto-isolator too which may be bad.
