Help Identify an old electronic part

Hello I help excavate an old building at the weekends existed aroun 1850s-1930s and today found this old electronics plug thingy made out of ceramic and has this written on it:

(3)?0A
ANTARK
MAJ(???)
500V
MAX WIRE
22 S.W.G

does anyone know what this was?
 
The broken remains of a fuse - it uses a replaceable piece of fuse wire, clearly shown in the second picture.

BTW, don't post pictures eleswhere, post them here - click on 'go advanced' and then 'manage attachments'.
