hi everyone I'm new here and don't have any electrical experience other than wiring plugs and simaler.

So with my lack of experience would I be able to build a timer like the one I'm going to post ?

Is it just wire the components in or is ther soldiering and so on involved ?

It would be to run a water pump for either seconds or minutes.

I know you can buy these but they are pricey.

Also I live in the uk as parts are different.

Thanks Vj

Here's a link **broken link removed**

Can't upload pics ? I'm on my iPad is that why ?

you have all choices, if you want to elaborate on specific design characteristics, you could build on bread board, with minimum soldering but think what happens when it gets bumped... or go as far as doing custom pcb and solder all your components... plus think of enclosures and mounts....

for you since this is for a common solution rather than a learning project i would recommend going with prebuilt, its better quality and prolly more reliable, the only thing to watch for when buying is that all the specs meet your criteria.

I would go with **broken link removed**:

Have a look at ebay. There are a variety of timer modules available inexpensively.

thanks for the replies. I would want something that can make things run for second and minutes. looks smart neat and tidy and cheap also fit it in to some sort of plastic casing. And simple to use

I found this one https://charter-controls.com/products/time-delay-relays/1cjdt0/?gclid=CLDzw5C25dACFUq17Qod5qMD3w and probably could find a cheaper version when I look.

The question is if I wired a plug on one end of this ^^ could i wire the pump to the other or a wire with a socket on it ? Would that work ?

Thanks

yes your pump will work if it runs below these values, that is the most the relay can handle :
Output Relay Rating
8A @ 240V

yes you will need to wire your own sockets, the sockets and wire will need to be able to handle the pumps volts & amps too..

I would get a metal electrical box to mount the timer in. Buy a short, heavy-duty extension cord, cut it, strip it, and you will have a male and female plug and socket...

Well that's that sorted, thanks everyone for the input.

Just one more thing,
I want to try make one of these at the same ratings

you can see the transformer in one of the pics but I don't know what it is really.

from what I can see the temp controller screen thing is something like this https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Digital-...810623?hash=item25bcc4e67f:g:K8QAAOSwUfNXRlk3

Is this one with pid function basically what I'm looking for ? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Digital-...810623?hash=item25bcc4e67f:g:K8QAAOSwUfNXRlk3

Thanks again
