HD44100H LCD driver

I can find plenty of references & examples for the HD44780 but I have here an LCD with a HD44100H chip on the back. There are plenty of datasheets around but I'm not sure if it is compatible or completely different. It has 14 pins with 15 and 16 at the side of the board, trial & error testing shows they're the backlight

Is it worth keeping & playing with or shall I just order one with an HD44780?

Try it and see, most text LCD's are HD44780 compatible, I've never actually seen one that uses the HD44780 itself.
