h-bridge design

Hi all. I am looking at re-building a remote control boat I broke a while ago. I've never tried building remote control vehicle circuits so I need some advice. I was designing a simple transistor h-bridge to control the propellor motor/rudder servo but was not sure wether it would work or not. It will not need to last a long time because knowing me I will be re-building it again soon. Below is the circuit I have got so far but would it affectively control the motor/servo assuming the forward and backward control were from the same power supply? I can see no reason why it would not work however when I built it and tested it nothing happened.

You cannot short the base of the upper left transistor to the base of the lower right (and vice versa). Read this thread for starters

What's the base voltage on the high side?
