Hi;
Trying to find data on a General Electric Z4XL16 rectifier diode from a 70's 6 amp battery charger.

That's the first place I tried, it comes up as obsolete so I'm looking for a substitute.

says it is a garden variety, nothing special, 16V, 1W Zener.

I'm not sure what the B reference is on that.
I took the original down to the local electronic shop and he gave me a substitute.
The charger is putting out 14 volts and everything looks good.
The only part I couldn't get is a filtering cap 100volt 290nF.
I looked on line but I only saw a quantity of 30 so I'll wait and check again down the road.

This is the marking on the original diode.

As I said, it is a Zener diode
