Does anybody using K128 PIC Programmer here ??

Hi,

For programming my PIC, I'm using DIY K128 PICmicro programmer from kitsurs.com, since 3 years. I'm looking to test USB supported PIC, which my software back (DIYPACK25) is not supporting. Consulted one of my friends, he adviced me to upgrade my unit. When searched for updates in Kitsurs.com, got nothing, but googling for update, got that it there is DIYPACK26b which seems newer than mine (DIYPACK25), but failed to get the file.

So, anybody having DIYPACK26b please?

Thaaaaaaaaaaaaaaanks be80be, I've downloaded it and replaced my old one. One more question, do I have to update anything in the programmer itself? or only the computer software?

the diy 128 programmer has a 16f628 chip on it, I think at one point they upgraded it to a 16f628a chip, that has to be reloaded with the new firmware that comes with the update files. shouldcome with a hex file and a readme file

The 16F628A is not self flashing, you'd need a programmer to update the firmware.

Yes, you are right, if it is new, you need to program the PIC16F628, but later upgrade file comes only to the computer software, or at least that's what I've got. Anyway, I've tried to program some of my old PIC and success ed, When I'll receive my USB PIC I'll try programming them and let you know.

That's what I read to there a clone that is open source and has better software but I don't remember the name of it.

It uses a usb to rs232 bridge and the 16f628a to program your chips it looked nice. works with linux and piklab

yep the 16f628a has to be programed. So you take a spare chip load the new firmware on using the diy128 and then swap the chips. That s how I used to do it until I got a pickit 2 programmer. I got a few other programmers around too. its nice to have a spare just incase.

I must say upfront I only skimmed this thread.

But if you are going to build a PIC programmer that requires a programmed PIC why not build a more more modern one with debugger support etc. Aka PICkit2 ?

It's easy a pickit2. They work with most all pic chips. have nice command line interface, plus it's own ide,

You could make a clone which work just as good or make a cheap clone with out all the bells like the program to go

I never used that option so i made a clone to have a spare good thing to have around

Ohhh, is it possible to make it on strip board ? that's make it much much easier.

You can use what ever I made with a pcb pref board even in a solder less beard board and it works

I have a pcb design for it to I just redid it for double sided copper and the size is down to 1 1/2 by 2 1/2 inch board
