Digital offset calibration

HI all....

I have a doubt in offset calibration.
I'am into energy meter development.
I'm, doing rms offset calibration now.

The offset will be present to give the output as zero when there is no input.
But in the device i'am using, the datasheet suggests not to calibrate this offset when the input is "0" as this may add up noise.

They have suggested a method in which i must calculate the offset...ie. By taking 2 voltages...One near full-scale and another near full-scale/10.

I tried out this method. I got a very low negetive value.
I tried this offset and got no significant change in the ouitput.

What should i do???
Should i ignore the datasheet and continue with my offset calibration with no input is given??

kindly help me out. I'am using ade7754 as my energy metereing chip.

Thanking you...awaiting your response....
