could someone help me design a simple circuit please?

Depends on the transistor. You can use high voltage transistors but this is more expensive than simply using a diode.
 
wheres the diode across the solenoid?

if that is a solenoid?
would think that a reverse diode is needed?
he mentions a motor?? but the solenoid coil needs one.
and why the two transistors?
would not just one work
I just had to ask
 
Two transistors because

1) a high impedance is needed at the input (to the transistors) to not load the PIC and to charge the cap

2) provide enough gain to saturate the second transistor
